It was only last month when we got a preview of Google's Android 12. The company certainly showcased a lot of upcoming features but today, the development team is releasing six more functions before we get to Android 12.

The first thing they introduced was an Android Earthquake Alerts System and it's rolling out globally. While Malaysia doesn't experience earthquakes, it's still a handy feature if we travel overseas. The second update that's more useful is the Starred pin on the Messages app that's coming in the next few weeks. We get tons of messages during the pandemic so sometimes it's hard to keep up, but you can always revisit the Starred messages in the starred category.

Speaking of messages, Contextual Emoji Kitchen will be available in the Gboard beta app today and will be coming to all Gboard users this summer (from August onwards). This function helps you to see contextual suggestions in Emoji Kitchen once typing out a message. On the other hand, Google is putting more customization and new app experiences on Android Auto such as personalizing your launcher screen directly from your phone or manually setting dark mode. It's said to be available now for WhatsApp or Messages (for driving).

Last but not least, Google is improving the voice recognition function. You can now access more of your favourite apps from your voice, such as "Hey Google, check (subject of a specific thing from an app)" to check something without moving your fingers. Voice Access is also improved with password input and gaze detection which is designed for people with disabilities.

It's not clear if any other Android brands will adopt either one of these features on their customized UI, but we think we should see these in the ASUS ZenFone 8 series which is already available in Malaysia.
