Government will reimplement MCO if new cases of COVID-19 exceed 3 digits

As we get closer to August, many are looking forward to the end of the movement control order (MCO) - that is now in the recovery MCO phase - in a month's time. But that may not happen if the situation progresses in the wrong direction. Earlier today, our government has declared that MCO will be reimposed if the situation deteriorates again.

According to The Star (via Bernama), Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri commented that many Malaysians have stopped complying with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for MCO, which has caused the number of COVID-19 cases to rise again. He said that the government will have to reintroduce the MCO if the number of new cases rises to three digits to prevent the pandemic from spreading again.

Due to the numbers rising again, the government will also look to tighten the SOPs that were loosened with the transition to RMCO. An official meeting will be held tomorrow (27 July) to discuss various matters, which could be when the government may decide to reimplement MCO or enforce tighter measures to curb this new wave of outbreak.

If we don't want MCO to be reimplemented, we all have to do our part in following SOPs. For now, stay tuned for updates on this at TechNave.com and remember to stay safe!
