HTC has arrived in 2017. They have just released the new HTC U Ultra and the HTC U Play to the world. The two phones feature a new design, look, and yes – no headphone jacks.

For those who want something a bit large, the U Ultra is the choice. It has a new type of glass; call Liquid Surface, as the glass is curved all away round the body. The material reflects the light in a way that has never been done before, at least for HTC. The phone has a 5.7-inch screen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, 4GB of RAM, either 64GB or 128GB of storage,  and the Liquid Surface treatment for the body. It has a second display that works mainly with the HTC Sense Companion.  The phone also features four microphones that can be used for voice search, as well as a voice biometric system that can unlock the phone just using the voice. There is a 12 megapixel sensor camera at the back, and at the same time there is a new wide-angle 16-megapixel front camera for selfies.

The U Play meanwhile is design as a more compact version of the U family. It also features the Liquid Surface treatment on the device. Instead of a Qualcomm processor, it has a MediaTek Helio P10 processor, with either 32GB or 64GB of storage, up to 4GB of RAM, and a different 16 megapixel camera for the rear. The screen size on this puppy is 5.2 inches.

The new feature that HTC introduced in the HTC U Ultra is the HTC Sense Companion – their own take on a machine learning AI in the phone. The AI takes data from information that is already available in your own phone. It also works with the second display, giving user the required data as needed, and down the road gives a more personalised data right on your fingertips.

Yes, the two phones does not come with the 3.5mm audio jack – but instead will be bundled with USonic earphones, that is said to be intelligent enough to customise the audio experience to fit you.

What may shock you is the price – the HTC U Ultra is slated to have a sticker price of USD749 or about RM 3340 in blue, black, white, or pink while the HTC U Play has no price as of yet. There will also be a limited edition U Ultra with a sapphire glass screen on the front and 128GB of storage. No details on that model as well. HTC Malaysia has yet to get back to us with any indication for Malaysia availability, so stay tuned to TechNave for more information on the HTC U Ultra and HTC U Play.
