HUAWEI Mate X5 release - Kirin 9000s SoC and 7.85-inch LTPO foldable OLED display

After releasing the HUAWEI Mate 60 series, the Chinese tech giant today announced its latest flagship foldable smartphone, the HUAWEI Mate X5. The successor to the Mate X3, read on to find out more about the device. 

Of course, the main highlight of the Mate X5 has got to be its main foldable 7.85-inch LTPO OLED display with a resolution of 2224 x 2496 pixels. As for the outer display, it’s a 6.4-inch LTPO OLED with a resolution of 1080 x 2504 pixels and protected by Kunlun Glass.

Under the hood, the device is powered by the latest Kirin 9000s SoC paired with up to 16GB RAM and up to 1TB storage. There’s also a 5060mAh battery with support for 66W wired, 50W wireless and 7.5W reverse wireless charging. 

Camera-wise, the rear sports a 50MP main + 13MP ultra-wide + 12MP periscope triple-camera setup. Meanwhile, the front-facing cameras on both the outer and foldable display are an 8MP shooter.

Other notable features of the Mate X5 include a new antenna design which HUAWEI claims has improved signal reception. Besides that, there’s an IPX8 rating, 2-way BeiDou satellite messaging in China, HarmonyOS 4 and colour options of Phantom Purple, Feather White, Feather Black, Feather Gold and Green Mountain.

The device is currently available for pre-sale in China and is expected to go on sale on 15 September in the country. As of the time of writing, its price and global availability are not announced just yet.
