For those who bought the previous HUAWEI smartphones that come with GMS (Google Mobile Services), this could be a problem that you might be worried about after the US ban happened. As the company no longer has access to American software and technology, current users are wondering if their HUAWEI devices (with GMS) still can get system updates or security patches. Now, it appears that the answer might be a 'yes' from a statement made by HUAWEI.

According to the Chinese tech giant, "they will continue to provide system updates and security patches. All HUAWEI phones pre-installed with Google Play can still use the Play Store to download and update applications. HUAWEI phones without pre-installed Google Play can use the AppGallery (HUAWEI’s own app store) to get apps and security updates.” With that said, it looks like the users wouldn't have to worry about getting updates on their HUAWEI devices that come equipped with GMS.

Although the ban has been there for a while, HUAWEI still managed to maintain their sales in such a difficult situation. However, the largest problem for the smartphone manufacturer might be the need to look for a new chip maker, as TSMC can no longer work with HUAWEI after 14 September. Software-wise, the company is confident with the HarmonyOS and all of the devices may come with it in the future.
