At the end of August, Huawei CEO Richard Yu said that there will be no smartphones that will have HarmonyOS in 2020. But that doesn't mean there wouldn't be any HarmonyOS-based device this year. In fact, rumours claim that Huawei could launch tablets this year that feature its in-house operating system.

According to Teme, we'll be able to try high-end tablets with the HongMengOS this year. He also hinted that there will be no more Huawei devices with punch-holes in 2020, but the devices will still maintain ultra-thin bezels. Anyway, HongMeng is the Chinese name for HarmonyOS, though it's unknown if there will be any differences between that and the HarmonyOS for global Huawei devices.

Besides that, Teme also claimed that the HongMengOS 3.0 will be mobile-ready and the first phone featuring the OS will be out in the second half of 2021. With the next Huawei Developer Conference (HDC) set for 10 September, we're likely to hear more news version 2.0 of the OS. As for version 3.0, the earliest we could hear about it is in the next HDC in early 2021.

From what's being said, it's more like we'll be able to test the OS on selected tablets soon and not have it running the OS out of the box. Having said that, are you interested to see how the HarmonyOS/HongMengOS performs?
