CEO and co-founder of Xiaomi, Lei Jun, mentioned that the Xiaomi Mi 9 may be the last flagship smartphone to be priced under 3000 Yuan (~RM1826). This is to ensure that the company would be able to invest more and create better products in the future.

There were rumours swirling around last year that the prices of Xiaomi smartphones would be increasing. Xiaomi denied these rumours and assured Mi fans that if the prices were to increase, the profit margins would not exceed 5%. However, this may no longer be the case anymore as the company does have to show some form of return to investors.

At least the Mi 9's price will stay the same... :(

On the bright side, you don’t have to worry too much about the prices as Lei Jun reassured fans that, “Our (Xiaomi) smartphones could become more expensive, not much but slightly more expensive”. To be fair, with Redmi now branching away from Xiaomi, you can always turn to Redmi for a cheaper alternative as the brand guarantees low prices.
