Huawei’s first 5G phone is expected to be its first foldable smartphone, the Huawei Mate X 5G. The device was initially rumoured to have been released last month but now it is reported that the device may be released this December.

The device was said to be priced at 12999 Yuan (~RM7854). However, latest reports mention that the price of the already expensive device may be more than expected. The price tag of the Huawei Mate X 5G may be as high as 14999 Yuan (~RM9063) in China and 17000 Yuan (~RM10277) globally. This may be due to the fact that not many units of the device will be produced due to the slow process. The low amount of foldable displays is the cause. In China, only 100000 units of the device will be produced.

The device folded and unfolded

For those who aren’t up to speed, the Huawei Mate X 5G features a 6.6-inch front display and a  6.38-inch rear display. It turns into an 8-inch tablet when unfolded. The tech specs inside are pretty powerful too, sporting a Kirin 980 chipset, a new Balong 5000 modem chipset, 8GB of RAM, 512GB internal storage and has a 4500mAh dual battery. There is a triple camera setup too with LEICA lens but the sensors are unspecified, as this is still a device a work in progress.

Huawei Malaysia has confirmed that the device will be making its way to our shores. However, no Malaysia price or release date has been announced. Despite the huge price tag, we may be seeing this device sold out due to it being 2 of Huawei’s first achievements. Would you buy this smartphone?
