Besides the Huawei Mate XTs revealed yesterday, Huawei also announced a new tablet. The company's latest slate is the MatePad Mini, a smaller 8.8-inch tablet powered by HarmonyOS. At this size, it's more like a large smartphone, so what makes it different? Let's find out.

Tech specs and features

The Huawei MatePad Mini is a premium tablet, featuring an 8.8-inch OLED display. It has a resolution of 2560x1600, up to 120Hz refresh rate, 1800 nits peak brightness, and supports 10-bit colours. Interestingly, there's also a "Soft Light" variant of the MatePad Mini, which offers reduced screen glare.

Although Huawei didn't reveal the chipset for the tablet, it's believed to be the Kirin 9020, the same chipset on the Huawei Mate XTs. The MatePad Mini also has 12GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage. It runs on HarmonyOS and features advanced connectivity like WiFi-7, Bluetooth 5.2, and two-way satellite messaging.

On the camera side, the MatePad Mini packs solid cameras usually not found on tablets. The rear has a 50MP main camera and an 8MP ultra-wide camera, while the front sports a 32MP camera with fixed focus. Additionally, the 50MP rear camera can record 4K videos.
