The Huawei Pura series, originally the Huawei P series, offers solid cameras at relatively affordable prices. We saw it with last year's Huawei Pura 70 series, which launched at a starting price of RM2599 and offered great cameras. This year, the Pura 80 series promises to one-up that.
According to Weibo tipster (via Huawei Central), the SmartSens SC5A0XS sensor outmatches the Sony LYT900 and Sony IMX989 sensors in High Dynamic Range (HDR). In fact, the source posted a chart showing a significant gap between the SmartSens and Sony sensors. While the Sony LYT900 and IMX989 have HDR of less than 90 db and less than 80 db, the SC5A0XS boasts an HDR of 110 db.

In layman's terms, having a higher dynamic range would deliver images with a wider range of brightness. It would also result in better contrast between light and dark areas in images. The SmartSens SC5A0XS achieved this despite using the same 1" size sensor and 1.6µm pixel size as its Sony counterparts. There's no mention of how the new sensor delivers better HDR, but this difference could be due to the camera software.
How well the camera can actually perform remains to be seen, as we won't know for sure until we can test the Huawei Pura 80 series phones. Hopefully, we can test these phones after they're launched in Malaysia. In the meantime, stay tuned to TechNave for other updates on the latest mobile devices.
