Right after Xiaomi announced its new partnership with Leica Camera, we were wondering what was the status between Huawei and Leica. Turns out that we didn't need to wait long, as Huawei has confirmed to the media that its cooperation with the latter has already ended on 31 March 2022

While you may still see the Leica brand on the Huawei P50 series, it turns out that that would be the last time. On the other hand, the Huawei Mate Xs 2 and P50 Pocket that were announced in Malaysia recently didn't have the Leica logo at all, thus confirming the end of their partnership even more so.

Just a brief history between the two brands, Huawei first sought Leica Camera's expertise way back in 2016 with the Huawei P9 series. Huawei was arguably the first to popularise the usage of a dual rear camera set, utilising Leica camera technology and expanded into the Mate series ever since.

Throughout the years, the Huawei P & Mate series camera performance has been hailed as one of the best in the industry. Albeit there were a couple of times that the company were caught red-handed by using a DSRL for promoting their camera-centric phones. It was also known that their hardware tends to consume lots of power and made the phones hot (speaking from experience).
