So the first wave of Apple XS series has just been released globally, in case you didn't know, it features the latest A12 Bionic processor that measures 7nm only. Apple is not the only one with the 7nm processor, as Huawei's new Kirin 980 processor has the same size and the company is actually quite confident that it's better than Apple's.

We have already got a debrief of the Kirin 980 last week, but just in case you were under the hood here's a quick recap. According to Huawei, the Kirin 980 now features 6.9 billion transistors and amazingly that's the same as Apple's. Comparing with the previous chipset, the Kirin 970, the Kirin 980 is 75% faster in the CPU segment and 46% faster on the GPU side. For power efficiency, they claimed that it's 57% and 178% better respectively so that sounds quite impressive on paper.

Not to forget, the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) is also improved and can now recognize 4500 images per minute and with better video processing capability. As usual, the NPU will still continue to learn loading prediction, as well as which memory to allocate its memory to. Connectivity is also an area that Huawei worked hard on, as it will be the world's first to support LTE Cat.21, able to download up to 1.4Gbps.

Just a couple of weeks left until we get to see the Huawei Mate 20 series on 19 October 2018. Until then, we will probably be testing between these two processors performance in the future for fun so stay tuned for more Huawei news at TechNave.com.
