Huawei will mass-produce 28nm driver chips for OLED panel in 2021

For large electronics companies, it makes sense for them to be able to produce their own components. This is particularly true for Huawei due to the US trade restrictions. The company has been looking into making its supply chain independent and will be manufacturing a variety of in-house components.

According to MyDrivers (via Gizchina), one of the components would be the driver chip for OLED displays. Specifically, Huawei will be mass-producing 28nm OLED driver chips in 2021. For your info, display driver chips help control aspects of a display panel like the colour gamut, brightness, power draw, and more. Since it's using the 28nm process, this is probably going to be a driver chip for large OLED panels such as TVs.

Currently, the OLED TV market is dominated by Samsung and LG. By producing its own driver chip, Huawei can increase its OLED market presence. Essentially, the company could gain a new revenue stream in the process, which is always good for businesses. Huawei already makes OLED smart TVs like the Vision X65, so this new means that we'll probably see more in the future.

But with that said, would you be interested in a Huawei OLED TV if it becomes available in Malaysia? What TV are you currently using at home? Do let us know in the comments below and stay tuned to TechNave for more news like this.
