It's been almost a week since Threads launched and even until now, most of us have no clue what to do with the app. Although it's mimicking Twitter, its role is quite different from what we expect, at least according to Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri.

Threads has already hit over 100 million users and Deputy Editor of The Verge Alex Heath commented that Meta has been trying to distance itself from news. It was evident that Meta has changed the news algorithm and may actually proposed laws for publishers to pay in order to host their links. Basically, is the news industry going to embrace Threads like Twitter?

According to Mosseri, Threads' goal isn't to replace Twitter but as a platform for communities on Instagram that never got into Twitter. Moreover, he said that it's also for communities on Twitter (and other platforms) to have a healthy conversation. He also mentioned Threads will not do anything to encourage politics and hard news.

When asked by Heath if politics and hard news would not provide value to the community, Mosseri replied that "any incremental engagement or revenue they might drive is not at all worth the scrutiny, negativity (let's be honest) or integrity risks that come along with them". In other words, Mosseri doesn't see the need for Threads to continue getting into heated politics or hard news.

So the goal of Threads seems more clear now, set up as a new platform to gain vibrant communities except politics and hard news. But what do you think? Let us know and we too are trying out something different on our official Threads account too to get engaged with you all. So do join us to talk all things tech.
