User behaviour can often change, which is why companies need to be on the lookout for new trends. In the last few years, one notable trend has to be the Stories format that is now common on many platforms. Now, Instagram wants to make vertically-aligned Stories.

According to TechCrunch, Instagram has confirmed that it is developing a vertical format for Instagram Stories. As you may know, you tap or swipe horizontally on Instagram to navigate through Stories. However, the company feels that vertically scrolling would be a more natural way of navigating the app.

The feature was first spotted by Twitter user Alessandro Paluzzi, who mentioned that it was a prototype that hasn't even been tested. It's speculated that the new format could result in more dynamic Stories like video posts, which will allow Instagram to compete with TikTok. Instagram already has Reels to compete in the short video segment, but vertical scrolling would be a nice quality of life improvement.

Mind you, it's unknown whether the feature will be out anytime soon. We do think it's a better way of navigating, but what about you? Let us know in the comments and stay tuned to TechNave for more news like this.
