In a news release from Intel, the company announced that it will be partnering with mobile chipmaker MediaTek to bring 5G capabilities to laptops. Intel will be in charge of defining the solution specifications, while MediaTek will be developing the 5G modem.

Intel laptops featuring a 5G modem are estimated to be available in early 2021, with Dell and HP as the two brands expected to be the earliest in delivering on that end. With this partnership, Intel-based PCs will be able to deliver faster speeds in terms of web-browsing, streaming and online gaming.

In addition, the two companies will enlist the help of Fibocom to develop M.2-based 5G modules. Such modules will allow for easier integration of 5G modems in devices with thin form factors.

Sounds like 2021 would be a good time to upgrade your laptop, assuming 5G becomes more available in Malaysia by then. What do you think? Let us know on our Facebook page. For more updates, stay tuned on TechNave.com.
