Previously, we mentioned that JPJ has temporarily suspended vehicle ownership transfers. A few hours after that, JPJ have lifted the suspension. So, what should you know about it?

For your information, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the online system is now back online with immediate effect after concerns were raised about congestion and disruptions at JPJ counters nationwide. JPJ reportedly plans to carry out future system upgrade works during the upcoming long weekend instead to minimise inconvenience for users.

JPJ later agreed to restore the online services immediately while continuing efforts to improve system security and prevent abuse or fraud. Future maintenance or upgrade activities are expected to take place during off-peak periods or public holiday weekends.

For many Malaysians, the online ownership transfer system has become one of the more convenient JPJ digital services in recent years. Buyers and sellers could previously complete most transfer processes remotely through platforms such as MySikap and MyEG without visiting physical counters.

Online ownership transfer services remain an important digital feature

The incident has also raised discussions online regarding digital identity verification and account security for government services in Malaysia. Some users suggested stronger verification methods, such as biometric confirmation, TAC authentication, or additional identity checks for ownership transfer approvals.

At the moment, JPJ has not shared specific technical details about the alleged fraud cases or the exact improvements being implemented on the system. However, the quick restoration of services suggests the agency wants to avoid long-term disruptions for vehicle buyers, sellers, and used car dealers.

What do you think about JPJ restoring the online ownership transfer system so quickly after suspending it? Should Malaysia introduce stronger digital verification features for vehicle ownership transfers?
