The Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) has revealed that more than half of the 160 telco towers affected by the recent floods in Johor have been repaired. Its Minister, Fahmi Fadzil said that this was the situation as of 12 March 2023.

According to Bernama, the KKD Minister confirmed that only the telco towers in Batu Pahat have yet to be repaired due to water levels still being high there. He further asserted that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has identified several telco towers susceptible to floods in Johor for a site-heightening process. This would essentially future-proofing them and ensure communications are not disrupted during floods.

Fahmi said that previously, such a process was successfully implemented in Kelantan and Terengganu which are often hit by floods. Besides that, KKD Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching has also asked telco companies to improve the hardening of their towers so that services are not interrupted during floods.
