Previously, we reported that the government is considering whether to follow Indonesia and ban TikTok Shop in our country. The Communications and Digital Ministry (KKD) has since given an update on the matter, saying that relevant ministries and agencies will discuss what to do next.

Its Minister, Fahmi Fadzil asserted that the relevant ministries and agencies are set to hold discussions on the regulatory aspects of TikTok Shop. According to Bernama, Fahmi said that KKD has received basic information about the platform’s demographics and the goods sold on it after TikTok met with KKD Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching.

KKD has also requested follow-up discussions with TikTok as more detailed information is needed. Afterwards, relevant ministries and agencies will be roped in, as KKD and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) only can regulate network usage.

Other matters would fall under the jurisdiction of the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) and the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry.

Hence, the next course of action will only be taken after these series of discussions have been held. So, what do you guys think of the whole situation?
