KPDN recommends Touch ’n Go to change its visa card name to avoid confusion

The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) has recommended Touch ’n Go (TnG) change the name of its visa card. This is because the word “Touch ’n Go” is synonymous with the toll payment system, hence it would confuse the public who may get the visa card for the purposes of paying for tolls when the card is unable to do so.

As reported by Bernama, KPDN Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub said that the recommendation is one of the immediate actions directed by the ministry in an engagement session with TnG management to resolve issues arising from TnG card services. The company was given one week to produce the next follow-up action plan based on the recommendations.

He further said that TnG needs to explain to users that its visa prepaid cards are only for the purpose of purchasing goods and services and for withdrawing money. Moreover, TnG was also instructed to carry out advocacy and early notification to users to inform them of the expiry of the card period.

Besides that, the company was told to improve the methods and speed up the process and period of refunds and balance transfers. TnG was also instructed to add card sales centres and services in locations other than the existing centres in KL Sentral and Bangsar.

The company must also request online business platform providers to take down advertisements selling TnG cards by third parties who do not have permission to sell the cards. Speaking of which, Salahuddin stressed that the KPDN's enforcement division will take legal action against any party that sells TnG cards above the price set by the issuer under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.
