Kuaishou launches Snack Video, a short video app that looks and feels like TikTok

Short videos have become familiar popular with the younger crowd in recent times, something that can be attributed to the existence of TikTok. Which is why it's not surprising to see that companies wanting to compete in that space. Just earlier this month, YouTube that it was releasing a new feature called Shorts and now Kuaishou Technology has launched Snack Video to compete.

As the name suggests, Snack Video is all about videos that are like junk food - quick to be consumed and easy to digest. According to the South China Morning Post, each Snack Video post is limited to 57 seconds long, which is in contrast to TikTok's maximum 60-second video length. You're also able to easily add friends via your contact list or social media apps.

Snack Video vs TikTok - Don't they look similar?

The app is now available on the Google Play Store and if you look at the user interface, you can see some similarities between the newer app and TikTok. For example, the 'Trending' feature in Snack Video is TikTok's 'Discovery'. Interesting enough, this is the Tencent-backed company's second short video app after the one called 'Kwai'.

Considering TikTok's dominance in what's already become a matured market, it's hard to imagine that less well-known competitor can break into the scene successfully.
