Augmented reality isn't a technology that's all that widely used, but that's not stopping companies from developing them. Previously, it was rumoured that Apple is planning to launch its Apple Glasses either in 2021 or 2022. Now, it looks like LG may be looking to compete with its own ultra-light AR glasses.

According to ETNews, LG is partnering with NTT DoCoMo to develop new AR glasses. It's expected to be a very lightweight device that won't weigh more than 80g. The two companies have a prototype already, but more research and development on the concept would be needed before it could launch. It's estimated that a final product could be coming next year (2021).

For context, the Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 has a very barebones design so it weighs only about 46g. Sony's SmartEyeGlass is closer in terms of weight at 76g, but it's wired to a controller that weighs around 45g. LG and NTT DoCoMo's model would be looking to compete directly with rumoured the Apple Glass, as it seems that the aim is also a single component that's super lightweight.

In my opinion, AR products need the right applications and lower prices so that more people can enjoy it. We probably have a long way to go before reaching that, but lighter devices would be a good start. Having said that, what do you think about the subject?
