Popular streaming service Netflix expanded into mobile gaming in November last year, but it looks like the service has gotten just meagre traction. Available only to subscribers but have to be downloaded as separate apps, a recent analysis found that less than 1 percent of Netflix’ total subscribers are using the service.

According to a report by CNBC, the streaming platform’s mobile games have been downloaded a total of 23.3 million times or around 1.7 million daily users. While that number in itself sounds impressive, it doesn’t translate well when you take into account that Netflix has 221 million customers.

Hence, despite the mobile game services is readily available for free to all these subscribers, less than 1 percent are actually taking advantage of it. Moreover, it doesn’t bode well that the company has spent a considerable amount in expanding to mobile gaming.

As reported by engadget, the company paid USD72 million or ~RM321 million to acquire Next Games which was behind the Stranger Things: Puzzle Tales mobile game. Besides that, Netflix has also acquired mobile rights to indie titles such as Spiritfarer and Into The Breach for an undisclosed amount.
