Lite variant of Apple Vision headset could feature iPhone chipset

A few months back in June, keen eyes spotted a patent for a cheaper variant of the Apple Vision Pro. Think of it as similar to the relations between the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro. The question many have is: "How would it be cheaper?" Well, some sources have an idea of what could happen.

According to Mark Gurman (via Wccftech), Apple could swap out the chipset for the standard Apple Vision. As you may know, the Apple Vision Pro is expected to feature the Apple M2. That's a chipset equipped on Apple's high-end Mac PCs, delivering high CPU and GPU performance. Instead of the Apple M2, Apple could opt for an iPhone chipset, such as the A17 Pro on the iPhone 15 Pro series.

Besides the chipset, Apple could also change the displays/lenses of the headset for ones with lower resolution. That would lower the performance and power requirement of the headset. In turn, this could result in Apple opting for a smaller battery to keep the whole package lighter, as mentioned previously.

However, Apple is allegedly still in the planning stages for this cheaper variant. It's speculated the idea could be canned if Apple fails to address the pricing issue. After all, who would buy it if it underperforms but still costs a bomb?
