If you have ever shopped for a MacBook, you may have noticed that Apple offers a standard 8GB RAM for all models. You could double that to 16GB, but that's often at a noticeable increase in cost. But now, Apple seems to have decided to offer at least 16GB of RAM for selected models.
As you may know, Apple has been revealing its new lineup of Apple M4-powered computers this week. This includes a new iMac, Mac mini, and MacBook Pro. But that's not the only big news from Apple this week. According to multiple sources, Apple has doubled the minimum RAM of existing MacBook Air models to 16GB. Moreover, the prices of the now base 16GB variants are the same as the previous 8GB variants.
You still have to pay more for 24GB RAM or more storage
This upgrade alone is good news for anyone looking to get a MacBook Air, as you'd get more RAM without spending extra. However, storage capacity didn't receive a similar upgrade, so you'd still have to pay RM850 to upgrade the storage of the M3-powered MacBook Air from 256GB to 512GB.
As far as we can tell, this move is to pave the way for more people to have Apple Intelligence, which has a minimum requirement of 16GB RAM. Of course, having more RAM is also good if you're a heavy multitasker or want to render videos in the background while you do something.
So, what do you think of the RAM upgrade? Is it a significant move for you? Share your thoughts on our Facebook page and stay tuned to TechNave for more news like this.
