The Communications and Digital Ministry (KKD) has announced that the 5G network coverage in our country is now at 64.7 per cent of populated areas. Meanwhile, the 5G network coverage in Penang has recently reached 67.7 per cent, meaning that it is ahead of the national average.

As revealed by KKD Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching, she is confident that the 5G network coverage in Penang would be more than 80 per cent of populated areas by the end of the year. According to Bernama, KKD has laid out plans to build 470 5G towers in Penang and as of today, 290 have been built.

At the national level, KKD is targeting 5G network coverage of 80 per cent of populated coverage by the year’s end. The current 5G network coverage is a single wholesale network under Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB). Accordingly, when the coverage has reached the 80 per cent target, our country will transition to a dual network model
