Yesterday, we reported that Shopee may be adding the option for consumers in Malaysia to make purchases via Apple Pay and now, it looks like the payment method is coming to other merchants too. The latest of which is the telco company Maxis, whereby a placard allegedly on display in one of its centres shows that Apple Pay is now accepted there.

Shared by Twitter user Fitri Samsil, the photo of the placard on a table with the sign ‘Apple Play accepted here’ is allegedly taken at the Maxis Centre in Sri Muda, Shah Alam recently. However, as of the time of writing, Maxis has yet to announce any information regarding the introduction of Apple Pay as a payment method.

Furthermore, Apple Pay is not officially available in Malaysia despite being introduced by the tech giant in other regions since 2014. However, given that Shopee and now Maxis have allegedly shown the acceptance of the payment method in the near future, Apple Pay may possibly be arriving in our country soon.

In fact, Apple Pay even made an appearance on AmBank’s platform by accident recently which just strengthens this theory. Well, until there’s an official announcement, it will still remain a rumour, so do treat this with a grain of salt.
