It was only yesterday when we reported that Maybank is planning a new mobile app, which could replace the MAE app. And as predicted, it was met with a negative reception, citing the hassle of transitioning to another platform. Thankfully, Maybank clarified that it does not plan to replace its existing MAE mobile banking app, reversing earlier speculation about the introduction of a completely new platform.

What Changed from Earlier Reports

Previously, Maybank President and Group CEO Datuk Seri Khairussaleh Ramli mentioned during a corporate briefing that the bank was working on a “new mobile banking app” under its ROAR30 five-year strategy that might eventually replace MAE. That statement sparked widespread discussion and some frustration among users who were concerned about migrating to yet another app after transitioning from Maybank2u.

However, a Maybank spokesperson has since clarified that the reference to a new app actually pertains to progressive upgrades and feature additions within the existing MAE platform, rather than the launch of a separate app that would force users to switch. This means customers will not need to download a new app or transfer accounts elsewhere at this time.

What This Means for MAE Users

While specific details about future features and rollout timelines have not been disclosed, the bank’s clarification aims to put user concerns at ease and signals a commitment to iteratively improving the existing platform rather than replacing it outright.

Honestly, it was a blunder by Maybank, perhaps accidentally using the wrong word yesterday during the press conference. Well, at least we got that sorted out now. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
