2021 is no doubt the year for 5nm chipsets to become the staple in the smartphone industry. With Apple, Samsung, and Qualcomm already presented theirs, it's time for another huge chip manufacturer MediaTek to do the job. On 20 January, the manufacturer will hold an event to introduce its latest invention.

According to MediaTek's Weibo, the event will include presenting new products of the Dimensity series. However, it didn't mention the measurement of the new chipset nor its name. Despite that, tipster Digital Chat Station has claimed that the company will only be launching the MT689x which is a 6nm flagship chip instead of 5nm. The MT689x is said to have a similar performance compared with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 865+.

If the event is for the 6nm chip, it is rumoured that MediaTek still has its plan for launching the 5nm chipset this year. Therefore, let's wait for the event and see what we will get before jumping to conclusions. It is worth mentioning that MediaTek has outperformed other chip manufacturers in Q3 2020 by getting the most share from the market. With that said, the manufacturer could be doing even more this year to maintain its glorious position.
