It looks like Meta is following in Twitter’s footsteps by introducing a paid verification service on its social media platforms Facebook and Instagram. Dubbed “Meta Verified”, the USD14.99 or ~RM66 on web and USD11.99 or ~RM53 on mobile monthly subscription service is currently being tested in Australia and New Zealand this week.

Announced by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg via Meta Channel on the new Instagram broadcast channels, the subscription service gives users a blue badge, get extra impersonation protection against accounts claiming to be them and get direct access to customer support. Moreover, users need to meet minimum activity requirements, be 18 years old or above and submit a government ID that matches the name and photo they have on either platform to sign up.

Besides that, users who sign up for Meta Verified will receive 100 free stars per month or the digital currency to tip creators on Facebook as well as exclusive stickers for Stories and Reels. Currently, the feature is still in the testing phase, with users in Australia and New Zealand getting Meta Verified first before it is rolled out to more countries.
