Motorola Moto X40 release: SD 8 Gen 2 SoC, 6.7-inch 165Hz OLED display and 125W charging from ~RM2159

After being teased by the Lenovo-owned company for quite some time, Motorola has finally unveiled its latest smartphone, the Motorola Moto X40. One of the first smartphones in the world to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, check out the full specs and features of the device below. 

As mentioned, the Moto X40 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 under the hood paired with the Adreno 740 GPU and either 8 or 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM. Furthermore, according to the official Motorola Chinese website, there are also options for either 128, 256 or 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage.

As for the display, Motorola equipped the smartphone with a 6.7-inch 165Hz OLED screen with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. Moreover, the screen is a 10-bit panel that supports HDR10+ and DC dimming. 

Moving on to imaging capabilities, the Moto X40 sports a 50MP main + 50MP ultra-wide + 12MP portrait triple-camera setup at its rear and a 60MP selfie camera at its front. Besides that, the device has a 4600mAh battery that supports 125W wired charging and 15W wireless charging.

Other notable specs include an 11-layer cooling setup with a vapour chamber, dual SIM, under-display fingerprint scanner, Android 13 OS via My UI 5.0 and IP68 water rating. In China, the Moto X40 is now available for pre-order in either Black or Blue colourways at these prices:

  • 8/128GB - CNY3400 or ~RM2159
  • 8/256GB - CNY3700 or ~RM2349
  • 12/512GB - CNY4300 or ~RM2730

As of the time of writing, Motorola has yet to reveal the availability of the Moto X40 outside of China. Well, let’s hope that the device will officially come to Malaysia!
