Last month, we reported on how MySejahtera check-ins dropped by more than 6.3 million amidst concerns over user data privacy. Well, the check-in rates actually went down further since then, as we saw the average for check-in rates on 9 April 2022 being the lowest in 9 months.

As reported by The Sun Daily, MySejahtera averaged about 16.9 million check-ins nationwide on 9 April compared to the 17 million average recorded on 1 July. Moreover, the average daily check-ins at registered premises dropped by 7.4 million (30.3 percent).

On 25 March 2022, the check-in average was 24.3 million. However just a couple of week later on 9 April, the number dropped to 16.9 million.

Commenting on the decline, Universiti Malaya head of social and preventive medicine Dr Victor Hoe said that this could be attributed to the legal and privacy issues related to MySejahtera’s data usage. In fact, users are even declining the app access to their device’s bluetooth functionality for MySJ Trace due to privacy concerns.

Besides that, a lack of enforcement may also attribute to the decline of check-ins. Well, even Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has said that the requirement to check-in via MySejahtera may end soon  and will be announced within the next two weeks.
