New Apple Mac Studio & Mac Pro with up to M2 Ultra announced, starting price at RM9499

Aside from the new 15-inch MacBook Air, Apple also announced a new Mac Studio and Mac Pro with the M2 Max and a brand-new M2 Ultra chip. Like the former, the new Mac Studio and Mac Pro aren't available yet but they come with a starting price of RM 9499.

Starting with the Mac Studio, it features a 12-core CPU, up to a 38-core GPU, and up to 96GB of unified memory with 400GB/s of memory bandwidth. Compared to the M1 Max Mac Studio, the M2 Max Mac Studio enables After Effects rendering up to 50% fast and developers to build new app versions with Xcode with up to 25% faster performance.

Then the new M2 Ultra Mac Studio, it delivers twice the performance and capabilities of the M2 Max. As Apple's largest system on a chip (SoC) ever, the M2 Ultra Mac Studio is up to 3x faster than the previous-generation Mac Studio with M1 Ultra, and up to 6x faster than the most powerful Intel-based 27-inch iMac. It features a 24-core CPU, up to a 76-core GPU, and up to 192GB of memory with 800GB/s of unified memory bandwidth for workstation-class performance.

The new Mac Studios have a wide array of connectivity with higher-bandwidth HDMI, enabling up to 8K resolution and 240Hz frame rates, whereas the M2 Ultra Mac Studio can support up to six Pro Display XDRs. Additionally, both WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 are supported, as well as 4x Thunderbolt 4 ports, a 10Gb Ethernet port, an enhanced HDMI port, 2x USB-A ports, 2x USB-C ports and an SD card slot on the front.

Next, the new M2 Ultra Mac Pro can be configured with up to 192GB of memory with 800GB/s of unified memory bandwidth. When compared to the Intel-based Mac Pro, the Mac Pro with M2 Ultra can push video transcoding and 3D simulations to run up to 3x faster, as well as ingest 24 4K camera feeds and encode them to ProRes in real-time when using 6 video I/O cards. It's also capable of running 22 streams of 8K ProRes videos.

In terms of connectivity, the Mac Pro has 8x built-in Thunderbolt ports that can support up to 6 Pro Display XDRs, 3x USB A ports, 2x higher-bandwidth HDMI ports that support up to 8K resolution and up to 240Hz frame rates, two 10Gb Ethernet ports, and a headphone jack. WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 are also on board.

The new Mac Studio starts at RM9499 and RM8549 for education. Additional configure-to-order options are available at apple.com/my/store.
