For the longest time, there were a lot of rumours regarding the PlayStation 5 Pro during the pandemic. While Sony did reveal a new slimmer PS5, it's still not the pro version but someone just made a full leak on ResetEra.com forums.

According to Tom Henderson, he said "Sony is expecting full specs to leak this month" due to the dev kits distribution of the unit sent to third-party studios. The PS5 Pro is using the codename Trinity which highlights three key technologies - faster storage, accelerated ray tracing and upscaling. Of course, none of these specifications are confirmed yet so do take them with a pinch of salt.

In the leaked list, there are a lot of technical terms but here's a breakdown. The Viola is still retaining the Zen 2 architecture just like the current PS5 but the frequency can reach up to 4.4GHz. On the other hand, the RDNA 3 is also still the same but will have ray tracing improvements from RDNA 4. Instead of relying on shaders, the thread will reduce data and execution divergence which is similar to Intel Arc's TSU.

The PS5 Pro is said to feature 16GB of GDDR6 RAM and its XDNA2 NPU is the one handling the upscaling technology, which will accelerate the bespoke temporal machine by Sony. It's similar to the PS4 Pro's checkboard and the goal is to upscale 4K resolution output at higher than 30 FPS.

Currently, the PS5 is only able to give two modes for gamers - which are Resolution Mode (4K 30FPS) and Performance Mode which favours a higher frame rate but with a lower graphics resolution. Should the PS5 Pro achieve these rumoured features, it will no doubt be a favourite for hardcore gamers who are into graphics performance. The PS5 Pro is rumoured to be revealed on September 2024 so until then, let's just wait and see.
