New patent from Huawei reveals foldable device that could be the Mate X2

Foldables are definitely going to feature prominently this year and from Huawei, many are expecting a successor to last year's Mate X at this year's MWC. To add on to that belief is a new patent that was discovered on the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), which shows a foldable device with a stylus.

In the EUIPO patent filing, a series of images were uploaded and we can infer a few things from them. First, this model has some of its core components located on the left side, where there are two front-facing cameras and a quad-camera setup at the back. The second thing to note is the relatively large stylus that seems like it'll slot into the housing on the left. Also, the housing comes with a secondary display, which will probably be used as a notifications bar.

Now, which device is this? We haven't found any hints on the patent filing but some are wondering if this is the Mate X2, a successor to the foldable Mate X from 2019. In our previous post discussing this, we speculated on how Huawei could reveal a Mate X2 at MWC 2020. It will be a device that comes with a more powerful chipset, durable screen, and improved hinge.

Besides being confirmed to be a patent filing for Huawei, there's no real indication what this device is and when it could be available. It's likely we'll have to wait for MWC 2020 for us to know more about this. With that said, what are your thoughts on a foldable of this design?
