Previously, we mentioned how Maybank’s Cross Border DuitNow QR includes Thailand and Indonesia. Today, Maybank announced the feature includes China as one of the eligible locations for QR payments. That said, what should you know about it?

For your information, you can now use it to make cashless payments with AliPay merchants. Notably, the process for QR payments in China is the same as in the previous 3 countries. Simply scan the code then type in the required RMB. Consequently, the same charge will apply and you will have a daily limit of RM1000.

Moreover, you will also have to authorize transactions via Secure2U if it is over RM250. Besides that, local merchants can also accept payments from AliPay. Interestingly, Maybank includes China Construction Bank alongside AliPay as a partner. In case you didn’t know, PayNet also did the same with DuitNow and AliPay.

According to Maybank, this step was made to aid Malaysians travelling to China. This progress is also a part of the “ongoing collaboration with Payments Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PayNet) aiding Malaysians travelling to China, and in-bound Chinese tourists visiting Malaysia”. We have yet to confirm more details. Perhaps, there will be further announcements to address this dissimilarity.
