New version of Microsoft Edge is now second most popular desktop browser

The last time we wrote about Microsoft Edge, it was about how Microsoft revamped the web browser using the open-source Chromium project. Well, that move has paid off for Microsoft in recent months. In March 2020, Microsoft Edge became the second most popular desktop browser globally.

According to NetMarketShare, Microsoft Edge recorded a global desktop browser market share of 7.59%. It barely edged out (heh!) Mozilla Firefox's 7.19% to third place. Google Chrome remains the world's undisputed number one browser with a massive market share of 68.5%, while Apple's Safari browser is in fifth place with 3.62%.

To be honest, that small of a lead doesn't mean much at the moment. It also doesn't mean that Microsoft Edge can stay ahead for long. But if you consider how the browser is pre-installed on every Windows PC, Microsoft has an advantage. As long as Microsoft can continue to improve Edge's compatibility and privacy protection, as well as continue to add useful features, it should be able to convince users to keep using it.

With that said, how many of you have started to use Microsoft Edge? Which web browser do you prefer to use? Share it with us on our Facebook page and stay tuned to TechNave.com for more news.
