Four days after the Nintendo Switch 2 global launch, Nintendo announced that the newest gaming console sold a staggering 3.5 million units. This marks the fastest hardware launch in the company's history, thanks to the sold-out pre-orders and midnight launch events.

Compared to its Predecessor

The original Switch, released in 2017, has sold a massive 152?million units, ranking it as the third best-selling console ever. Despite that legacy, the Switch?2’s early momentum shows it is already off to a record-breaking start, and it's poised to outpace its predecessor's early performance.

Nintendo forecasts annual Switch?2 sales at about 15?million units, matching its original console’s year-one performance. Analysts note that supply chain robustness will be critical in sustaining long-term demand. Notably, Nintendo seems to be preparing stock for up to 20?million units.

Higher Price, Higher Expectations

In the US, the Switch 2 is priced at $449.99 (~RM1.9), which is a significant jump from the original’s $299.99 (RM1,299 in Malaysia). The Switch?2 comes with enhanced hardware, including a larger screen, more memory, and stronger processing power.

The Switch?2 offers a major hardware leap: eight times the memory of its predecessor, a bigger 7.9-inch LCD, magnetic controllers, 120?Hz handheld refresh rate, and 4K docked output. Social gaming is enhanced too, with features like live voice chat and temporary game sharing.

When is the Switch 2 Launching in Malaysia?

At the moment, Nintendo has yet to release any information about the Switch 2's price tag and availability in Malaysia. However, some eager fans have already gotten a unit, albeit a Hong Kong version, at the price of RM2,499.

As we reported before, the Switch 2 will be launching in Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines on 26 June 2025. In Singapore, the Switch is priced at SGD $719 (RM2.3K).
