No more smartwatches from Huawei in the future?

Are smartwatches going downhill? Well, according to Huawei CEO Eric Xu, he actually thinks so (#shocking) and has started doubting whether investing into smartwatches is even worth doing anymore.

This all started during Huawei’s Global Analyst Summit 2017 that is currently held in Shenzhen, when Mr Eric Xu was answering a journalist’s question in a QnA session, on his opinion of smartwatches would ever be in the same league of the smartphone counterparts.

“I am always confused as to what smartwatches are for when we have smartphones…..Therefore, when the smartwatch team in Huawei presents their ideas to me with great excitement, I keep reminding them to consider whether there are tangible needs [for these products] in the market.” said Mr Eric Xu.

In contrast, Huawei did recently reveal the Huawei Watch 2 and Watch 2 Classic in Barcelona. However, Mr Eric Xu is not the only who has the same thought (even I think the same), as the smartphone market is a lucrative business especially in a country like Malaysia, where a sudden rise of multiple smartphone brands are competing against one another for the best valued phone to offer.

But what do you think? How do you see smartwatches improve in terms of innovation? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more Huawei news at TechNave.com.
