Nokia G42 release: SD 480+ SoC, 50MP main camera and 90Hz IPS display at ~RM1274

A week after it was accidentally leaked online, HMD Global finally released the Nokia G42, its latest mid-range offering in the European market. Offering some competitive specs for its price, read on to find out more about the device. 

First up, the G42 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480+ mobile processor paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The storage is also expandable via the microSD card slot and juicing it all is a 5000mAh battery with support for 20W charging.

The display is a 6.56-inch 90Hz IPS LCD display with a resolution of HD+ with a water-drop notch that houses an 8MP selfie camera. At the rear, there’s a 50MP main + 2MP macro + 2MP depth triple-camera setup. 

Besides that, the G42 is made from recycled plastic and is user-repairable thanks to HMD Global’s partnership with iFixit. Specifically, repair guides and OEM parts for the device are available for the next 5 years.  

Other notable specs include Android 13 with the promise of 2-year OS updates and 3-year monthly security patches, USB-C, 5G connectivity, dual-SIM, IP52 certification, a 3.5 audio jack, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and colour options of either Purple or Grey. In Europe, the G42 is priced at EUR249 or ~RM1274, with availability outside of the region not yet announced.
