Nvidia is expected to launch new graphics cards based on the Ampere architecture this year and we've been seeing some rumours lately. Early last week there were leaked photos of what the GPU's cooler could look like. But today we have a rather interesting rumour that claims the new RTX 3000 series GPUs could come with an additional chip.
According to Tweaktown (via Coreteks), Nvidia could use a new type of dual-side PCB that has a "traversal co-pressor" on the other side. This explains why the cooler for the RTX 3000 series has one fan on the other side. It's believed that this co-processor could be used for ray-tracing, possibly as a chip that solely handles ray-tracing.
How well can it perform? Well, a separate rumour claims the GeForce RTX 3060 could outperform the RTX 2080 Ti in ray-tracing. If that's true, Nvidia could be able to deliver high-performance ray-tracing to more mainstream users beginning this year.
Since AMD's RDNA2 will bring hardware-accelerated ray-tracing to next-gen consoles and PCs, 2020 is shaping up to be a good year for gamers. With that said, what are your thoughts on the news? Let us know on our Facebook page and stay tuned to TechNave.com for more updates.
