In the smartphone industry, tech enthusiasts would be familiar with DxOMark for their scores and ratings on smartphone cameras. However, it seems that we won't be seeing the upcoming OnePlus 9 series on the chart at all. This officially came from OnePlus CEO Pete Lau himself just over the weekend.
The announcement was made on Weibo and without much explanation, it was a straightforward message about not sending an OnePlus 9 series model to DxOMark. There may be no official reason, but it has led some users to speculate that it has something to do with OPPO. Just a day earlier before Lau's message, former OPPO VP Brian Shen criticized DxOMark for reviewing the latest OPPO Find X3 Pro for its lack of free-form optics.
Today, Pete Lau announced on Weibo that OnePlus won't send their OnePlus 9 series phones to DxO Mark for testing. Yesterday, Brian Shen, ex OPPO VP criticized DxO Mark because of DxO words about FX3P ultra wide lens. While it doesn't seem like a big deal, the point here is that both the OnePlus 9 Pro and OPPO Find X3 Pro feature the same IMX789 free-form lens sensor. A Twitter user even remarked that DxOMark would mention the former has the lens if given a chance to review. DxOMark may be known for reviewing smartphone cameras over the years, but its credibility is starting to be less reliable as many don't agree with some of the reviews (like some Samsung flagships, for example).
In case you have forgotten, the OnePlus 9 series will be unveiled on 23 March 2021. The phone should make its way to the Malaysian market as well so until then, stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
