Last week, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Tokyo Olympics committee confirmed that the Tokyo Olympic games would be postponed. A new date for the event has been set for next year, making this the first Olympics that has ever been postponed during peacetime.

Yoshiro Mori, chief of the Tokyo Olympics committee, held a press conference yesterday to make the formal announcement. It has now been confirmed that the Tokyo Olympics will now be held from 23 July to 8 August 2021. As for the Paralympics, it will be held the month after that on 24 August 2021 to 5 September 2021.

Moving the event to next year isn't as simple as it sounds. Tokyo Olympics CEO Toshiro Muto has stated that there would be massive extra costs to rearrange the event. Also, businesses like hotels would be severely affected, as visitors originally coming have cancelled bookings due to the pandemic.

The postponement is unfortunate, but safety has to take priority in the face of this crisis. Let's look forward to the Olympics next year instead and hope that it'll be a successful one. For more news, please stay tuned to TechNave.com.
