Perodua’s affordable electric vehicle (EV) is touted for release later this year, with the price range lauded to be under RM100,000. Now, its CEO Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad has alluded to a new sales concept that allows the company to sell the EV for under RM80,000: By not including the batteries!
Harian Metro quoted Zainal as saying that the new concept involves owners leasing the EV’s battery separately. He further elaborated that the EV batteries would be owned by Perodua and the EV owners will pay a monthly lease to the company.
He added that the price of the lease would be kept to a minimum and that according to studies conducted by Perdoua, many people support this scheme. Moreover, the arrangement also allows Perodua to ensure its EV owners will always have batteries in the best condition.
