Apple has long been rumoured to be working on its own 5G chip and potentially ditching Qualcomm’s chip in their mobile devices. Now, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon seems to confirm the matter, saying that he expects Apple’s 5G chip to ship next year.

Speaking at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023 in Barcelona recently, Amon said that his company believes that Apple will do their own 5G modem in 2024. However, he cheekily told Apple that if the company needs Qualcomm’s 5G chip, “they know where to find us,”.

This may allude to the reported problems that Apple is facing with the development of its own 5G modem in its mobile devices. Recently, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo tweeted that Apple is facing technical challenges related to mmWave and satellite connectivity, with its proposed debut in the iPhone 16 still in doubt.
