Qualcomm could have started work on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

When Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon (SD) 8 Gen 1 earlier this month, smartphones welcomed a new era of 4nm silicon chips. But even before devices with this flagship chipset are officially out, rumours of a successor has already started appearing.

Sources on Weibo (via Gizmochina) suggest that Qualcomm could already be working on an SD 8 Gen 2. Allegedly, the company considers MediaTek's Dimensity 9000 a significant threat to the position of its latest flagship chipset and wants to start shipping a successor by June 2022.

On the other hand, this might not be a full successor of the SD 8 Gen 1 like the SD 888 is to the SD 865. Instead, it could be the equivalent of a Plus variant. Essentially, it would be an overclocked version. The reason that it's named 'Gen 2' could be because SD 8 Gen 1+ would sound weird.

Mind you, we're only speculating here, so take the news with a grain of salt. Having said that, how well do you think the SD 8 Gen 1 would perform? Would you be upgrading to a new flagship soon? Let us know in the comments, and stay tuned to TechNave for more news like this.
