Astro Malaysia Holdings Berhad and the Malaysian Broadcasting Authority (RTM) have announced a new strategic partnership to increase content choices for consumers. With this announcement, RTM's original plan to end its channel offering on Astro from 1 July, which was announced in May, will not be continued. In fact, more channels will be offered when RTM News, Sukan+ and the RTM radio network begin to be available on these platforms in the near future.
RTM News, RTM radio network and Sukan+ could arrive on Astro too
Through this initiative, Astro customers will continue to have access to TV1, TV2 and TV Okey channels on the Astro, NJOI and Sooka platforms. This means that users can not only watch national news live but also follow sports coverage and listen to RTM radio directly through their digital platform.
Moreover, this demonstrates the commitment of both parties to ensure that consumers continue to have access to quality public content. At the same time, this collaboration also helps strengthen the local media industry so that it is more stable and sustainable in the long term.
In the same statement, both parties stated that the current mass media landscape requires a comprehensive and future-oriented approach. RTM and Astro also share the goal of building a media ecosystem that is user-friendly and capable of providing the best value to the people.
Personally, we understand why Astro would resume its collaboration with RTM. After all, the notion of the biggest cable service in Malaysia not having the longest serving broadcasting channel in the country is a bit odd. What are your thoughts on the news? Feel free to leave your comments below.
