Recent Apple WatchOS update kills the functionality of Reserve Strap Watch charging band entirely

The Reserve Strap is a wristband made to extend Apple Watch battery life, from barely a day to almost a week long of usage. The wristband uses the Watch accessory port, to charge the battery while also acting as the wristband. However, unfortunately, Apple decided to close the port by making changes in the External Accessory Protocol on their WatchOS version 2.0.1 update, which has disabled Reserve Strap functionality completely.

Apple will be suspending the use of their port until they unveil their MFI program for Watch, and currently, there is no official date of when the program will be available. Until then, only customers on the previous version of the Apple WatchOS will be able to use the Reserve Strap. Due to that, the Reserve Strap team have decided to put a stop to any shipment for customers that have updated their WatchOS.

Now we can only hope for the upcoming rumoured Apple Watch 2, that may be unveiled at WWDC 2016 will come with an improved battery life that can rival the usage of the Reserve Strap wristband.
