Way back in June of last year, rumours of a Redmi K40 series starting popping up. Some claimed that Xiaomi would launch it at the end of 2020, but it looks like Xiaomi decided to delay that plan. Now, sources claim it could be coming soon with a MediaTek chipset.

According to Gizchina, the Redmi K40 series could be launched after MediaTek's launch of its new chipset on 20 January 2021. Allegedly, this is a flagship 5G chipset with the Dimensity moniker - likely the Dimensity 2000 chipset. If that's the case, then Xiaomi's launch could be between late January to early February 2021 to avoid clashing with CNY holidays in China.

However, an unreleased MediaTek MT6893 could be the chipset used instead. This is supposed to be a mid-range chipset, but its benchmarks showed performance on par with the Snapdragon 865 chipset. Of course, it's possible that this mid-range chipset would be used for the standard Redmi K40, while the Pro variant uses the Dimensity 2000 chipset.

Regardless, it sounds like the Redmi K40 series will have good performance without being overly expensive phones, which is something I personally welcome. Would you be interested in getting it for yourself? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned to TechNave for more updates on this.
