Previously, we mentioned that the Redmi Note 8 will be using a new MediaTek Helio G90T chipset according to a Russian EEC, but that has been changed slightly now according to sources, it will use a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chipset and the Helio G90T is going to the Pro variant.

From the forum of Weibo, the official Redmi account confirmed this news the last time we saw the SD 665 chipset was on the Xiaomi Mi A3. Posted by Redmi Manager, Lu Weibing, he explained the reason why the SD 665 was chosen instead of the SD 660 is because of its power efficiency due to its smaller structure (11nm vs SD 660's 14nm), as well as being able to support the Vulkan 1.1 API that can reduce power consumption by 20% compared with Open GL ES. To add on, the SD 665 has a better AI Engine for advance imaging and computing power.

So TLDR version - he concluded that the SD 665 has "lower power consumption and higher IQ" based on the fact sheets. Guess we can't be too surprised with the decision but then again, this is the first time that the Redmi Note series will have two variants - the Redmi Note 8 Pro variant will be focused as the gaming smartphone whereas the vanilla one is more on selfies (if that's what they are going at).

BUT WHAT DO YOU THINK? And which variant are you going for? The Redmi Note series is very likely to be imported into the Malaysia market so stay tuned for the official Xiaomi news at TechNave.com.
